Introduction – agents and distribution

What is an Agent?

In the tourism industry, an agent is a third-party business or individual that sells your products and experiences on your behalf. Agents act as a distribution channel, reaching customers you may not directly access in exchange for a commission on each booking they generate.

Agents can be travel agencies, tour brokers, concierge services, hotels, or any business with an established customer base that aligns with your offerings.

Why Use Agents?

Distribution through agents offers several strategic advantages:

  1. Broader reach: Agents tap into their own customer networks, extending your market beyond direct sales.

  2. No upfront marketing cost: You only pay commission when a booking is made; commission is performance-based.

  3. Scalable growth: As you onboard more agents, your booking volume can grow without proportional increases in your own marketing spend.

How Agents Work in Nabooki

Nabooki's updated Agent platform allows agents to access live availability and for commissions to be automatically managed through a dedicated portal. Once an agent is connected to your merchant profile:

  1. The agent gains access to an Agent Booking Tool, a dedicated version of the shopping cart that only shows the services you've activated for them.

  2. When the agent logs in and makes a booking, the system automatically applies their commission, so they only pay the net amount.

  3. When a customer books directly through an agent's shared URL (not logged in), they pay full price, and the commission is tracked for settlement later.

The Commercial Framework

Commission is not treated as a discount on your services. Instead, it is recorded as a payment. The invoice always reflects the full service value, and GST is calculated on that full amount. This ensures your accounts remain accurate and compliant.

This framework provides clear, transparent visibility into bookings, commission earned, and amounts outstanding — all within the platform.
