Configure tax settings

Nabooki can automatically apply tax to your services and invoices. Before that works, you need to set up at least one tax rate. This article walks you through adding, editing, and deleting tax settings.

How tax works

When you assign a tax rate to a service, Nabooki always displays the price inclusive of tax. The tax amount is calculated on top of your base service price and included in the total shown to customers.

Example: Base service price: $100 Tax rate: 10% Tax amount: $10 Price shown to customer: $110

📝 Note: If you need to add tax on top of your current prices, update the service price to account for this — Nabooki will always display the total price including tax.

Add a tax

  1. Go to Settings > Taxes
  2. Click the + Add new button to open the tax setup screen.
  3. Enter a Tax Name (for example, GST or VAT).
  4. Enter the Tax Rate (%) to apply.
  5. Under Applicable To, choose All Services or Selected Services.
  6. If you chose Selected Services, select the specific services the tax applies to.
  7. Click Add to save your changes.

All Services vs Selected Services

All Services applies the tax rate to every service you offer. Selected Services applies it only to the services you choose. If a service has its own specific tax assigned, that tax takes priority over the All Services rate.
Example: Service A — assigned to All Services tax (10%): displays at 10% Service B — has its own tax rate (15%): displays at 15%

Applying more than one tax to the same service

Nabooki applies one tax rate per service. If more than one tax applies in your region (for example, a state tax and a county tax), combine them into a single rate and assign that to the service.
Example: State tax: 6% County tax: 2% Combined rate to enter in Nabooki: 8% Base price: $100 → Total shown to customer: $108

Edit or delete a tax

  1. Go to Settings > Taxes
  2. Locate the tax you want to update or remove.
  3. Click the ••• button under the Action column.
  4. Select Edit to update the tax details, or Delete to remove it.
  5. If deleting, confirm by clicking Delete again.
📝 Note: If a tax is already set up when you first open the Taxes tab, you can edit it directly using the ••• button rather than adding a new one.
